It is surprising how many horror stories there are about the Thanksgiving turkey.
So many people all seem to have that one time they did not thaw out the turkey early enough. You’ve heard that story, right? It starts off with full-on stress. Then panic. Lots of tears. Hand-wringing despair. It ends with creative resourcefulness and an odd platter of misshapen turkey pieces that have been subjected to defrosting, microwaving, boiling, and other ingenious methods to hurry the thawing process.
While I applaud resourcefulness, there is a better way.
Skip the thaw and pre-order a fresh turkey.
Pre-ordering a fresh turkey in advance allows you to ask for the size you want and have it ready for pickup on the day that you want. No more panic, tears, despair or resourcefulness needed. Boom.
Here are places in Northwest Arkansas where you can pre-order a fresh turkey. Have I missed any? Add it to the comment section.
Note: Pre-orders were completed by mid-September, however it is possible that some may still be available via the Wren Thicket Farm in S. Fayetteville
Order in store or online
Note: While they are not taking pre-orders, they say that they plan on having “plenty of them” available a few days before Thanksgiving
I checked out places in Siloam Springs, Gentry, Eureka Springs, West Form, Farmington, Huntsville, and Green Forest, to no available. Thankfully many of the above listed butcher shop are easily within driving distance.
Looking for last-minute fresh?
When all else fails or you are tasked to “bring the turkey” at the last minute… simple run to the store and pick up fresh turkey breasts, rub them with herbs and crock-pot them. Double boom.
