*** THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. Congratulations to lucky #2, Julie with Eggs and Herbs! ***
Welcome to Day 6 of weeklong giveaways focused on all-things-local because I am celebrating my four-year blog anniversary and showering you with awesome presents. We are down to the last two giveaways.
Day 6: LOCAL INTRODUCTION TO BECOMING YOUR OWN BEST FOODIE, thanks to Cooks Natural Foods and Summer Kitchen Family Farm.
Foodies are a curious bunch. We want the full experience beyond tasting and smelling. We want to involve all of our senses and engage our brains along with our hearts. Simplicity is cherished and simplifying the intricate is a treasured moment.
Today’s giveaway was born out of an idea and a tugging of curiosity.
In August, Arkansas became the latest state to legalize raw milk. Conversations on my facebook page lit up as we all excitedly talked about where we could find locally sourced raw milk. I love conversations like these because it connects us and informs us. Inspires us, too. One of you talked about finally wanting to make homemade cheese now that raw milk was finally available.
So I thought, “well, I want to make homemade cheese from raw milk, too.”
And then I thought, “well, wouldn’t everybody want to?”
First I reached out to Brionne, manager of Cooks Natural Market in downtown Rogers. I love visiting Cooks and you hear me talking about them often. Their bulk foods section is aisle upon aisle of raw nuts, grains, teas, herbs, you name it and they probably have it. I remembered him telling me that he was getting some cheese making kits in. I went to go buy my own kit to make cheese and discovered an entire section of how-to-make-your-own-cheese housed right next to (you guessed it) the bulk section. Score!
I am so happy that Cooks is generously donating a complete cheese making kit for one of you.
Then I reached out to one of the local farmers that provide raw milk, Summer Kitchen Family Farms from Fayetteville. You can find them at the Fayetteville Farmers Market selling raw milk, eggs, and meats. They absolutely loved the idea of helping someone make their own cheese using raw milk from their farm.
I am so happy that Summer Kitchen Family Farms generously is donating a gallon of fresh raw milk for one of you.
Now you can make your own cheese!
A lucky someone will be receiving a cheese making kit and a gallon of raw milk. The kit has everything you need to make up to 30 one pound batches of mozzarella and/or ricotta cheese. And it only takes thirty minutes, how easy is that?
Contest ends this Monday, September 16 at midnight (CDT). I will pick a winner via randomizer.
Answer the following question in the comment section.
Q: If you made your own cheese, what would be the first dish you would use it with?
Please make sure your comment has information that allows me to contain you such as your name, email, blog, facebook, or twitter name in case you are the winner (need help on how to leave a comment?).
